How to Determine Your Routing and Account Numbers
The Routing or the ABA Number is easy to determine if you know a these few rules governing the numbers at the bottom of your check.
- The routing number is always a nine digit number.
- The routing number is always preceded and followed by this “
” symbol.
- On personal checks the number is always the first number. On commercial business checks the number may be the 1st number or it may the 2nd number. Observing rules 1 and 2 above you will be able to determine the routing number no matter its position.
- The account number is always followed by this “
” symbol. It is neither the check number nor the routing number and you should not include those numbers when entering the account number.
