How to Determine Your Routing and Account Numbers

The Routing or the ABA Number is easy to determine if you know a these few rules governing the numbers at the bottom of your check.

  1. The routing number is always a nine digit number.

  2. The routing number is always preceded and followed by this “” symbol.

  3. On personal checks the number is always the first number. On commercial business checks the number may be the 1st number or it may the 2nd number. Observing rules 1 and 2 above you will be able to determine the routing number no matter its position.

  4. The account number is always followed by this “” symbol. It is neither the check number nor the routing number and you should not include those numbers when entering the account number.
